The Planet of Death and Rebirth
Pluto was discovered in 1930 by American astronomer Clyde Tombaugh, and named by Venetia Burney, an eleven year old British school girl, who was interested in classical mythology. After her grandfather Falconer Madan had seen the news about its discovery, he shared his granddaughter’s suggestion with Herbert Hall, a professor of astronomy. He then passed it on to the powers at be, and three days later it became official.
There is of course, an inextricable link between astronomers and astrologers but they don’t see eye to eye on matters of importance, like Pluto. Pluto is located the furthest away from the Sun, in a distant region known as the Kuiper Belt. Pluto was considered to be our ninth planet but in 2006, he was reclassified as a dwarf planet by the International Astronomical Union. Apparently, Pluto wasn’t considered big enough to influence.
Pluto is the slowest-moving planet and completes his orbit every 248 years, so this is why he’s so effective - he’s super slow. Over the past 16 years, he’s been in corporate Capricorn bringing things to light, and is now having his last hurrah.
In Roman mythology, Pluto was the god of the underworld. He’s about power and where he sits in a particular sign intensifies what that symbolises. He brings to light corruption and abuses of power, and anything that’s not for our highest good. His job is to reveal the truth and demolish what is false, removing its power and hold over it. It’s why Pluto represents death and rebirth.
Pluto ends his last transit in Capricorn on 19 November 2024. He’s then fully forwards in the sign of Aquarius for over 20 years.
Corporate Capricorn
Capricorn is a sign associated with rich white men at the top called, Donald, Jeffrey, Charles et al, big business, big money, governments, people politics, top down power, vertical power structures, hierarchies, patriarchies and monarchies.
Capricorn is a sign of conforming and performing, and on a personal level it’s about your ambition for the position. So if you’ve experienced power plays, control freaks, energy suckers, despotic leaders, narcissistic abuse, gaslighting, workaholics, egomaniacs, megalomaniacs, peeping toms, and those who abuse their power over you, you’ve been Plutoed.
Proof Pluto Brings Things to Light
Finding the courage to fight for justice and seek accountability is contagious. Since 2008, we’ve seen so many scandals brought to light, here are a few big ones:
A mega Hollywood film producer abused his power and was convicted of sex offences.
An American billionaire who owned private islands which were used for abusing and trafficking young underage girls for the delectation of people in power.
Global Financial Crisis caused by money lenders targetting low income, low information homebuyers, which went unattended by financial regulators because of their complexity, was a big contributor to the global financial crisis of 2008. It all started to unfold as Pluto went into Capricorn.
Post Office Scandal, where UK sub-postmasters were charged and convicted of fraud over faulty Horizon software, are now having their convictions overturned but the fight for compensation goes on.
Infected Blood Scandal. From the 1970s to the early 1990s, tens of thousands of people living in the UK were infected with hepatitis C and HIV, as a result of receiving infected blood or blood-clotting treatments. Many of these products were imported from the USA and distributed by the National Health Service. Years of campaigning by those infected and affected, goes on.
Grenfell Tower fire, where tenants lost their lives, weren’t listened to and failed by numerous authorities. Their loved ones still don’t have all the answers. The aftermath is being felt by most flat owners in the UK, as they fight to get their Landlords to pay for and replace inflammable cladding, and now living in fear in buildings that are a fire risk. The fight goes on.
Harrods is a British luxury department store, once owned by an Egyptian tycoon, now accused of systematic trafficking of women, is now coming to light.
The Pluto Effect
The Pluto effect has been staggering. This cycle of death and rebirth is messy, difficult, devastating and painful. I don’t know anyone who’s not gone through a difficult and challenging time during this cycle.
My own life has transformed as Pluto transited through Capricorn. I was constantly Plutoed. It was stifling, stressful, unsustainable, upsetting but often subtle. I felt stuck for most of it (that’s a Capricorn Moon for you), unwilling to accept that there were alternatives that could be far more fulfilling and far more me, and there are. Being Plutoed highlighted that.
We’ve got to stand together to collectively crush these power systems that have been designed to isolate, undermine, keep us quiet, live in fear, feel small, insignificant and exhausted.
We now know how to spot various abuses of power at home, work, well anywhere really, and shouldn’t be afraid to call it out. The powers at be should never ever underestimate the power of the collective and those who feel empowered to speak up, especially women who stand together.
People Power and Pluto in Aquarius
We might feel a sense of going backwards, as the old power systems cling on during these last few weeks of the Pluto in Capricorn cycle but it’s collapsing and coming to an end.
What does Pluto in Aquarius mean? Well, people power is back and so are women. Aquarius is an air sign ruled by Uranus, the planet of revolutionary energy, shocks, surprises, rejection and innovation. Aquarius is associated with groups of any kind, civil rights, diversity, equality, people power, feminism and the sisterhood, the collective, humanitarianism, new discoveries and horizontal power structures.
The last time Pluto was in Aquarius was 1776, and America gained independence from British rule, and the French Revolution brought about a democracy in Europe. And the time before that, King Henry VIII broke away from Rome and formed the Church of England.
If you’ve got an Aquarius stellium in your chart like me, your time has certainly come.
